HTC Desire premieres in September - one of the sharpest Android phones

Desire is based on the latest version of Android, combined with a 3.7 inch AMOLED touchscreen with zoom functionality. Resolution is 480 x 800 pixels WVGA.

Thus the platform is Android 2.1 (Eclair) with HTC Sense and the processor, a Snapdragon from Qualcomm, is at 1 GHz. The internal memory consists of a ROM of 512 MB and 576 MB of RAM. Expandable up to 32GB with microSD.

For internet connectivity you can use both Turbo 3G, GPRS and EDGE as usual wireless LAN (WLAN also known as Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11 b / g). This means that the mobile networks in Europe and Asia is suitable. HSPA / WCDMA and GSM in all four frequencies (850, 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz).

The more traditional connectivity options are a normal stereo headphone of 3.5mm and Micro USB.

Moreover, there is also a built-in GPS and thus a digital compass.

Multimedia
HTC Desire, in addition to a built-in FM radio is also capable of playing music, videos and displaying photos.

Supported audio formats are aac, amr, ogg, m4a, mid, mp3, wav and wma. For audio recording it uses the amr format.

Video formats supported for playback are 3GP, 3G2, MP4 and wmv and 3gp for video recording.

The camera is a color camera of 5 megapixels with autofocus and flash. The functionality also includes face recognition, wide-angle photography and geotagging.

Finding out wether long term use of mobile phones casues cancer tumours was the objective of the Interphone project. 50 scientist working in 13 countries on 14,000 people for six years with a cost of $30 000 000 were supposed to publish the final paper this month.

Serious flaws in the study’s design and contradicting results from national research teams has brought the study to chaos. The scientist are busy disagreeing with each other, according to The Economist.

Wether mobile phones causes cancer seems to remain a question unanswered.
